Koyuki (小雪, Koyuki) is Ginta's best friend in Tokyo, Japan, where she goes to Ginta's school. She is the only person who believed his stories of MÄR-Heaven before he went there himself.

Appearance

Snow and Koyuki are very similar, both in appearances and personalities, and ever since Ginta has met Snow in MÄR Heaven, Koyuki was somehow able to meet up with Snow in her dreams. Same happened to Snow. She has dreams of MÄR Heaven, and is also affected by what happens there, as shown when she starts sweating profusely during Ginta's fight with Phantom.

Personality

Much like Snow, Koyuki is a kindhearted individual, ready to place her friends before herself.

Etymology

Koyuki's name means "light snow". Like her counterpart, her name is based on the fairy tale princess Snow White.

The Magic Stone containing a fragment of Koyuki's soul.

Before Koyuki's birth, a beautiful witch named Diana who resided in the parallel world of MÄR Heaven became enchanted by the wickedness of Caldea's Orb, the embodiment of human evil in her homeland. Desiring to claim both MÄR Heaven and Earth for herself, she devised a plan that would allow her to reign over both by tearing apart the dimensional walls that separated the two worlds. Using an ancient spell, she took a fragment of Koyuki's soul to put within the magic stone. She then secretly traveled to Lestava Castle one night and implanted the magic stone into the sleeping Lestavan queen's womb, as she was was unknowingly pregnant at that time. When the queen eventually gave birth, that baby would be named Snow, a magical clone of Koyuki that would share a psychic link with her.

As a little girl, Koyuki became close friends with two other children: Ginta and Kotomi. The trio often played hide-and-seek in the neighborhood. One day, while Ginta was "it" for hide-and-seek, Kotomi collapsed in the street where she hid and and a passerby called for an ambulance to take her to the hospital. Ginta, who had already found Koyuki, was determined to find Kotomi at the hospital, but ended up getting lost. Koyuki convinced Ginta to give up for the day and to go home. That evening, Kotomi passed away. After the funeral, Ginta confessed to Koyuki his guilt about how him not being able to find Kotomi resulted in her death.

Koyuki and Ginta continued to grow up together and shared many activities as best friends. Despite knowing that Ginta's mother was a fairy tale author and that he and his father were huge romanticists, Koyuki never disclosed that she occasionally dreamt of being a princess in a kingdom of a fairy tale world.

One day before school, Koyuki intervened with a fight that broke out between Ginta and tough classmate of theirs who smashed Ginta's precious plastic model. Taking a broom, she whacked the bully from behind and chased him away. Koyuki then turned to Ginta and told him to remake the model, reasoning that if he were to give up just because the model was ruined then he'd be admitting complete defeat to the bully who broke it. Ginta did what she told him, and ended up feeling better about it.

Upon graduation day from elementary school, they buried a time capsule on the school grounds, containing two letters for their future selves to read when they turn 20 years old. One letter from young Koyuki to 20-year-old Ginta, and the other from young Ginta to 20-year-old Koyuki.

Their bond remained strong in middle school, and in one of her home-ed classes Koyuki made a special cake for Ginta. She named the cake as "Poseidon, King of the Ocean Serenade" and pointed out that the trident was the fork to eat it with. Ginta happily took a bite, but gagged at the taste because she put in chunks of squid, shrimp, and clam in order to make it real seafood. Koyuki wiped off a bit of pink frosting from Ginta's face to lick from her finger and gave a V sign, saying she'd do better next time. Two other female classmates who watched criticized Koyuki's friendship with a person like Ginta. In response, Ginta offered the cake to them and they backed away in fear. Koyuki smiled and stated that only she would understand because she knows so many of Ginta's good traits.

These good traits often were overshadowed in the eyes of others by his weak physique, terrible eyesight, mediocre grades, and heavy indulgence in playing video games. But Koyuki loved his passion and imagination, and listened to Ginta whenever he told her about his fairy tale like dreams. Ginta finally set a record for having the same kind of fairy tale dream 102 times in a row, the most recent having occurred in the middle of class. Their homeroom teacher, Mr. Yazawa, yelled at Ginta to run laps outside as punishment, but upon failure to do so was mocked by his classmates. Koyuki attempted to stand up for him, but Ginta's hot-headedness caused him to chase his classmates around the room, before losing all stamina and was laughed at again.

While walking home from school that day, Koyuki asks Ginta questions on in-depth details about his dreams. While listing every detail, he states that if such a dreamland really does exist then he would like to go there, even if only once. Koyuki expressed certainty that his dream would come true, and Ginta was touched that she was the only person who ever listened to him without laughing. Koyuki reasoned that existence of things like ghosts and UFOs were also possible so why not a dreamland. She then hands Ginta a bar of milk chocolate and runs off to her house, telling him to eat it and become stronger for the sake of that other world.

Ginta's Disappearance

The next day, as Ginta lightly dozes off at his desk while waiting for class to start, a few of his classmates tease him again about his daydreaming when Koyuki approaches and asks about his dream again. Ginta happily stands up, but before he can say anything, the room blacks out and a strange magic circle glowed on the floor beneath their feet. A supernatural being, cloaked in red with chains, crosses for eyes, and an exposed tongue materialized in the darkness, bringing forth a physical doorway from the magic circle. While other students shrieked and fled the room in panic, Koyuki collapsed to the floor in shock as she gazed at the door. Ginta picked her up and held her in his arms, exhilarated that his dreams were true and his chance has finally come to travel to the world of fairy tales that he longed for. The gatekeeper casts a die which lands on "1", thus only one person could pass through the gate. The gatekeeper then speaks to Ginta, acknowledging that because he could see the vision beyond the closed gate that he was to be invited through, as his desire to either leave his current world or belief in the existence of another enabled him to see the vision and the door appeared for him. While their classmates are yelling for them to flee, Koyuki asks the gatekeeper if she could enter as well, but the gatekeeper warned her that more individuals attempting than what the die allows for could be dangerous. Concerned for her safety, Ginta carries Koyuki to the door of the classroom and sets her out into the hallway with the other students, insisting that he'll go alone. His classmates frantically try to get him back, but a barrier prevents them from physically running in to stop him. Ginta laughs that he could be dreaming at the moment, but if he doesn't take the chance before him now, he may never get another chance. Koyuki, pouting that it wasn't fair that only Ginta would get to go, quickly changed her attitude and asked Ginta to promise he would return one day with stories of his adventures. Ginta gave a thumbs up to Koyuki and approached the gate. Pushing against it with his hand, the door responded and opened on its own. With readiness and excitement, Ginta runs through the portal, the door closing behind him and disappearing, along with its gatekeeper.

Two weeks later, Koyuki visits Ginta's mother, who is heartbroken by Ginta's disappearance. Koyuki borrows the kitchen to prepare fried chicken for her, trying to cheer her up. She asked if perhaps Ginta ran away from home because he was mad with her, but Koyuki dismisses this, saying she saw Ginta go through a door to the other world. Mrs. Toramizu dolefully interrupted her, explaining how Danna disappeared in a similar scenario after increasingly talking about the märchen world existing. She stated that she couldn't bring herself to believe in such a world because she would then feel robbed of her husband, before tearing up at the reality that her son was gone, too.

Koyuki then decides to open up about her own dreams, telling his mother that she sees Ginta every night in her dreams. Shocked, Mrs. Toramizu calms down and listens to Koyuki as she speaks of being a princess of a powerful kingdom in the world of MÄR Heaven. Koyuki becomes flustered as she indirectly mentions kissing him as an "accident" after being saved by him, and tells her not to worry for Ginta's wellbeing because he's doing fine while currently training with Princess Snow. Mrs. Toramizu giggles at Koyuki for sounding just like her moronic son, saying she'll try believing in it a little. Koyuki assures her that Ginta will return, as she made him promise that he'd come home with many stories of his adventures.

Visiting Ginta's Mother

Koyuki continued to visit Mrs. Toramizu daily after school to give her updates on Ginta's activities in MÄR Heaven, as well as notebooks of copies of her notes that she takes at school. She applauds Koyuki's fiery intent to glue Ginta to a desk to study, and happily listens to the progress of Team MÄR while discussing the War Games.

Visits became less frequent after the sixth round of the War Games, as Koyuki couldn't see anything while Snow was held in stasis by the Queen of the Chess Pieces.
