Luberia (ルベリア, Ruberia) is MÄR Heaven's governing thief guild. Founded by Galian, it is a nation that consists of "people who all have touched bottom".
Topography and Origin
"Luberia" is derived from the Italian word ruberia, meaning "theft, stealing, robbery".
History
First Great MÄR Heaven War
When a militant organization known as the Chess Pieces declared war against all of MÄR Heaven, Luberia was left relatively unscathed by their assaults on other kingdoms. Because of this, Luberia remained largely neutral throughout the duration of the war, but found itself with unexpected competition with the Chess for raiding and looting.
Six-Year Interlude
Sometime after the first war, Galian decided to step down as Luberia's leader and appointed his protégé, a newcomer named Nanashi, as Luberia's new chief. Galian then withdrew from Luberia altogether to secretly defect to the Chess Pieces.
Various groups of thieves within the guild were commissioned by Peta, the chief of staff of the Chess Pieces, to pursue the sentient ÄRM Babbo with a bounty of one hundred million pewter. However, after a little over a week of making the commission, Peta paid a visit to Luberia Fortress to address the bandits in the mess hall. Peta announced to them in person that the bounty on Babbo was being called off. Enraged that their contract had been abruptly cancelled, the bandits attacked Peta, who easily defended himself. He then went on a killing spree within the fortress by using his Unique ÄRM, Blood Syringe, to kill as many people as he could find, including women and children. After the slaughter, Peta took the Luberian flag that hung from the fortress as a trophy and left.
Two bandits, Mock and Chap, were returning to the fort when they spotted Peta leaving, and quickly went inside to discover a gruesome sight. They found Peta left behind a card with the insignia of the Chess Pieces to mark their resurrection. The two rendezvoused with survivors that were in hiding in the fortress and set up a make-shift morgue to gather victims. Towards the end of the day, another large group of bandits led by their boss Nanashi were returning to the fort, where Mock and Chap approached him with grim news.
Second Great MÄR Heaven War
Within a couple of days, a mass funeral procession was held to bury the victims in a hastily readied cemetery plot behind the fortress. After the funeral, Nanashi decided the guild would no longer maintain neutrality and resolved to exact his revenge.
